Seat Toledo: history and background - March 2: Seat Cordoba

The Seat Cordoba hit the market in 1993 as an option with four-door body of the second generation of the Seat Ibiza who shared structure, interior and front of the body. In fact, relative to Ibiza, the Seat Cordoba added a third volume capable of holding a trunk of 445 liters. The rear is Córdoba could bulky as the third volume even born above the waist line of main car, but the slight fall of the trunk lid and integrated in all versions spoiler visually lighten the set and offered a balanced outline.

The Seat Córdoba, and therefore the second generation Ibiza, continued the process of Germanization of the brand that had begun with the Seat Toledo in 1991 and consisted of an increase in robustness and perceived quality vehicles, although sometimes this warning due to the use of internal “Volkswagen”.Following this trend, the Seat Cordoba used the same dashboard, same chassis and the same engine blocks 6N Volkswagen Polo, which was a wonderful showcase output, especially for its commercial network.

From inside called attention to its vertical center console that brought together in descending order outputs cooling, sound equipment, refrigeration controls and the controls for the electric windows and electric mirrors (if they have). It does this with more than acceptable levels of quality in relation to competition.

Mechanical blocks were the same as the second generation of Seat Ibiza 1.0 except 45CV model. In fact, the basic model in the range was the 1.4 60hp. The top of the range was occupied by the 115hp 2.0, but later models were made up to 150hp.

With regard to diesel mechanic at the time of its release was available from 1.896cc single mechanical indirect injection with 64 or 75hp depending on whether the atmospheric or turbocharged versions.

The trim levels were available CL, CLX, GLX and GT sports

Seat Cordoba in 1996 benefited from a slight cosmetic upgrade that modernized especially the design of the bumpers, which became a one-piece fully painted in body color trim and lost protection. More important however was the launch of the mechanical diesel TDI (direct injection) with 90 and 110hp and the bodies of two doors and family called SX and Vario respectively.

The Seat Córdoba and enjoyed an update of some importance in 1999 gave him an entirely new, much more aggressive and with great visual importance of the anagram “S” Front Seat. The bumpers recovered (useful) black protective molding. At the rear of the internal distribution of the pilots (not shape) and opening the trunk lid came to be controlled from the central anagram Seat changed.

This update brought to a whole new Seat Cordoba at the dashboard highlighting the large digital display console for viewing options of the radio and the indoor climate that could optionally be controlled by a manual climate control with automatic temperature.

The trim levels were normalized with the rest of the Seat range and were renamed Stella, signs, Sport. He also appeared more performance model, the Cupra range, equipped with the 2.0 16v 150hp.

These modifications enabled him to stay in the market until 2002, when it was replaced by the second generation of Seat Cordoba 6L.

Much more ambitious than the first generation and savvy placed some no man’s land, the second generation of Seat Cordoba again be the body of three volumes of the Seat Ibiza (third generation in this case). Its exterior line was much more conservative and elegant than before, perhaps because of a length of 4.3 m. His lines were designed by Walter da Silva and it showed some similarity in the Seat Cordoba with the designs before the engineer had made for the brand Alfa Romeo. Details such as the importance given to the front shield or the shape of the back are elements never before seen in Seat and asocial design with models like the Alfa Romeo 156. Interior had a very personal design with clear retro reminiscences.

The advantage of this new generation of Seat Cordoba (and also Ibiza 6L) is that unlike previous generations, now did not share any external cloth or inside with any other model of the Volkswagen group. Only some of the console switches or levers steering column could betray Germanization brand.

Mechanical groups used in the Seat Córdoba 6L were all borrowed from the bank of the Volkswagen group engines and from the first time extensive mechanical with power supply offered between 70 and 115hp on gasoline and 64 and 130hp for diesel mechanics

The second generation SEAT Córdoba was a good product but he lived in a difficult period in the automotive sector. The Seat Cordoba 6L disappeared in 2009 but at that time based on the Seat Ibiza 6J substitute was projected due to recent years had only a certain host countries.
